Outstanding in his Field
Frank Fincel (pictured) is receiving about 40 calls a day from people asking when his famous Fincel’s sweet corn will be available for purchase. In normal years the first corn is available at Dubuque Farmer’s Market and Fincel’s West End market stand sometime around the Fourth of July, so fans are starting to get a little anxious. The Dubuque Symphony Orchestra Turns 50
Yes, it's true -- the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra has reached another milestone. Following up on the banner year of its 49th season, the Symphony is now gearing up for its half-century birthday!
Even though the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra’s lineage can be traced back to 1903, the 2008 - 2009 season marks its 50th anniversary. Don't worry, it's not fuzzy math or voodoo economics. In 1903 the first Dubuque civic orchestra was formed and performed regularly until World War II interrupted its concert schedule. It wasn’t until 1958 that a new orchestra was formed, this time under the auspices of the University of Dubuque. In 1974, the University Civic Symphony changed its name to the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra to reflect the organization’s mission to serve the entire community.
