Six percent of drivers on the road are talking on their cell phones while driving, and 10 percent of driving teenagers are either talking or texting. Xuesong Zhou, an assistant professor at the University of Utah, realized these statistics and developed a gadget to help decrease the numbers.

Distinguished Mathematics Educator Award presented to UWP's Fredric Tufte
The Wisconsin Mathematics Council has presented the Distinguished Mathematics Educator Award to Frederic Tufte, professor emeritus of mathematics at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. The award is given to recognize exceptional leadership and service to the Wisconsin mathematics education community. Tufte, who retired in 2004, was a faculty member at UWP for 38 years.

Main Street has a New Hub
There's a building on Main Street that is home to a lot of memories for the 365 family. For a long time, it was a popular Thursday night hangout for Dubuque Jaycees. It's one of the places where 365ink publisher Bryce got to know his lovely bride-to-be. Many of us have fond memories of seeing 365 writer Mike Ironside's band, ochOsol, play there. 253 Main Street, formerly known as Bartini's, has been without a doubt a favorite nightlife establishment.

Tastes of University Hill
Back in the day (ancient times when Mike Ironside went to Loras), there were four bars on what can best be dubbed University Hill – Whiskey River, The Avenue Top (known to everyone as “The Ave”), Gomer’s, and the bar then known as the Barrel Tap and, later, Schrobie’s. Of course, this was before the drinking age changed to 21, so every weekend there were hordes of drunken college kids packing the bars and roaming the streets between them.
